While working on my husband’s Holland family, I found the will of Anthony Holland who probably died in spring 1799 as his estate was probated in June 1799 in Scott County, Kentucky.
Here is a transcription of his will:
In the name of God Amen I Anthony Holland
of the (sic) Scott and State of Kentucky being sound in mind and
memory but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life
do make and publish this my last will & Testament in
manner and form Following (viz)
Item I Give and bequeath unto my son Ephraim
Holland all my Tract of land that I bought of George
Christy and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . several other persons being
the tract. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
by the name of Dick and one negro man by the name
of Sam and one mare by the name of Kate to . . . . . . .
and his heirs forever.
Item I give unto my Daughter Ruth Plimmer fifty acres
of land out of my tract of land that I Bought of Moses
Bledsoe lying on the north side of North Elkhorn and one
negro boy by the name of Moses and one horse of the
value of ten pounds with what I have given him
here to fore as his part of my Estate to her and her
heirs forever.
Item I give to my son George W. Holland one hundred and
ten Acres of land the firs (sic) choice out of my tract of land
that I Bought of Moses Bledsoe lying on the no. side of
North Elkhorn and one Negro boy by the name of Tom
one cow & calf one Bed & furniture to him and his heirs
forever. Item I give unto my daughter Anna Holland fifty
acres of land out of my tract of land that I Bough (sic) of
Moses Bledsoe lying on the North side of North Elkhorn
and one Negro woman by the name of Sall but the child
she is now with child with shall fall unto the residue of
my Estate but shall be cept (sic) with its mother until
it is fit to take away I also give her one feather bed
and furniture all which I give her as her full part
of my Estate to her and her heirs forever
Item I Give unto my daughter Margaret Pen one pound
Sterling with what I have here to fore given her as her full
part of my Estate to her and her heirs forever
Item I Give unto my daughter Elizabeth MOsby the
Sum of Five pound Sterling with what I have heretofore
given her as her full part of her Estate
Item I Give unto my son Henry Holand (sic) one Negro
by the name of Ben with what I have hertofore (sic) Given
him as his full part of my estate to him and his heirs
forever Item I give unto my son William Holland all
the remaind (sic) of my tract of land that I bought of
Moses Bledsoe lying on the North Side of Elkhorn
after deducting what I have given to Ruth Plummer
George Holland and Anna Holland to him and his
heirs forever and further I do will and bequeath
that after all my Just debts are paid and the debt
of my son Ephraim may owe for. . . . . . . .. . . . . . .

Residue of my Estate be Equally divided
Between my son Epraim (sic) Holland William Holland &

Beloved so (sic) William Holland Ephraim Holland & George Holland my Executors to this my lasst will & Testament and do hereby revoke
and make void all other wills heretofore made

this day produced in court by Ephraim Holland and William Holla-
nd two of the Exors therein named and proved by the oaths of
Samuel Shepherd & Alexander Cragmiles two of the witnesses therein named and ordered to be recorded And the said Executors having taken the oath and given bond as the law directs Certificates
granted them in due form Test

Holland & William Holland are held and firmly bound until John
Mosby John Rogers Rodes Smith & John Hunter Gentlemen Justices
of Scott County in the sum of two Thousand pounds current
money to be paid to the said Justices or their successors the pay-
ment whereof well and truly to be made we bind our selves
and each of us our (sic) and each of our heirs Exors & Admors
Jointly and severally firmy by these presents sealed with
our seales and dated this 24th day of June 1799
The Condition of the above obligation is such that if the above

persons for them and the same so mad (sic) do Exhibit unto the
said county court of Scott at such time as they shall
be thereunto required by the said court & the said goods
Chattles & credits do Administer according to law
by rendering a Just and true account of all their actings
and doings therein and paying the legacies in the
Said will mentioned as fare (sic) as the goods Chattles and
Credits will thereunto Extend and the law shall char-
ge them the above obligation to be void otherwise to
remain in full force and virtue
