Anthony Fisher & Alice (MNU), Syleham, England to MA, 1600s

With this fifth generation of the Fisher family of Suffolk, England, the line has come down to Anthony Fisher, who is the immigrant who left England for a new life in Massachusetts.

Anthony Fisher was baptized on 23 April 1591 in Syleham, Suffolk, England. He married (1) Alice (MNU), c1613 and (2) Isabel (MNU) (Rigby) Breck, 14 November 1663 in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Second wife Isabel survived Anthony by several years, passing away on 22 June 1673 in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

By the 1620s, religious commotion had become rife in a number of English counties and thousands of people were choosing to leave for a new life in Massachusetts. The Fisher family appears to have been one of them.

Anthony and Alice were the parents of seven children:

Anthony Fisher was baptized on 1 February 1558/59 in Syleham, Suffolk, England, the son of William Fisher and Margerie Bert.

He married Marie Fiske, 16 October 1586 at Fressingfield, Suffolk, England.

Anthony and Marie (Fiske) fisher were the parents of eight probable children:

Anthony Fisher was buried at Syleham, Suffolk, England on 11 April 1640. Marie served as administratrix of his estate, but her death date is unknown.

William Fisher & Margerie Bert, 1500s, Syleham, Suffolk, England

William Fisher, likely born in Wingfield, Suffolk, England c1527, was the son of Robert Fisher and an unknown wife.

However, in adulthood, William moved to the adjoining villages of Syleham and Stradbroke, both also in Suffolk, England. He may have lived near the village borders, as his children were alternately baptized in one village and then the other.

William married Margerie Bert, daughter of William Bert, on 15 October 1551 in Stradbroke, Suffolk, England. Eventually the family removed to St. James South Elmham, about 7 miles from Syleham. His occupation was that of yeoman farmer.

William was educated, proved by the fact that his will was written in his own hand.

William and Margerie were the parents of five children:

Death dates for William and Margerie (Bert) Fisher are unknown. However, William wrote his will on 14 June 1591 and it was probated about two months later on 9 August 1591.
