Family of Margaret (Abbott) Warren of Chappel, Essex and Nayland, Suffolk, England, 1600s

A couple of days ago, I mentioned The American Genealogist. It’s an excellent genealogy journal that has been around for 102 years!

Here’s the cover of the issue that has the Margaret (Abbott) Warren article so you can get an idea of the variety of articles:

The credentials of the authors/researchers are impeccable as every single article in this issue has at least one FASG included as an author. That is quite impressive and I 100% trust their research.

Even though this post is about Margaret Abbott, I wanted to include a plug for this magazine. It’s an excellent tool by which to learn how to research and write up findings.

Now, back to Margaret. The TAG article is a short two pages, mostly because the Chappel records are incomplete.

Therefore, Margaret Abbott can only be placed with her immediate family group.

Thomas Abbott is probably the son of Thomas Abbott who was baptized at Chappel, Essex, England on 29 October 1554. He was buried at Chappel on 30 May 1625 and married twice, with both women being named Anne.

The first Anne was buried at Chappel on 29 June 1582, not long after her daughter was baptized. The second wife Anne, and mother of Margaret and her two siblings, was buried at Chappel on 16 November 1612.

Child of Thomas Abbott and first wife Anne (MNU):

1. Katherine, baptized 10 June 1582

Children of Thomas Abbott and second wife Anne (MNU):

1. George, baptized 24 November 1586, Chappel, Essex, England; died 1647, Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts; married Mary Gelstead, 5 October 1624, Great Tey, Essex, England. She was buried at Chappel on 28 March 1633/34.
2. Margaret, baptized 27 July 1689, Chappel, Essex, England; died 6 November 1662, Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts; married John Warren, 5 November 1612, Chappel, Essex, England
3. Thomas, baptized 4 November 1593, Chappel,, Essex, England; lived in Bulmer, Yorkshire, England in 1625, when he was the administrator of his father’s estate.

With incomplete records, there isn’t a lot of new information in terms of multi-generational details. However, we do now know that Margaret’s brother, George, also made the trip to Massachusetts.
