The last in this series of posts on the Ogden family continues with my direct line of descent, Richard Ogden and Mary (MNU), who lived in Fairfield County, Connecticut in the 1600s.
Richard Ogden was baptized on 25 March 1621 in Bingley, Yorkshire, England, the son of Richard & Ellen (Lupton) Ogden. He appears in no other English records, but does appear in early Stamford, Connecticut records by 1643, as does his uncle John.
By 1644, Richard and his uncle John were proprietors in Hempstead, Long Island, New York.
No marriage record has been found for Richard and it is believed that his wife’s name was Mary. He probably married her by 1644 in the colonies.
They were the parents of eight children:
- Son, born c1646, probably Hempstead, New York
- Daughter, born c1648, probably Hempstead, New York; married Samuel Ward, who died before 8 January 1692/93
- Richard, born c1653, probably Hempstead, New York. died before 25 January 1697/98, Fairfield County, New York; married Sarah (MNU)
- Daughter, born c1655, probably Hempstead, New York; died before 15 June 1687, probably Hempstead, New York; married John Pine, c1684
- Elizabeth, born c1662, probably Huntington, Suffolk, New York; died before 1700, probably Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut; married Daniel Meeker
- Abigail, born c1664, probably Fairfield County, Connecticut; married Daniel Silliman, c1685. He died 4 February 1696/97, Fairfield County, Connecticut
- David, born c1668, probably Fairfield County, Connecticut; married Abigail Sherwood
- John, born c1669; died 22 December 1745, Fairfield, Salem, New Jersey; married Sarah Diament/Dymont, c1700
The inventory of Richard Ogden’s estate was taken on 8 April 1687 in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Nothing further is known about his purported wife, Mary.
