Edward Harraden & Sarah (MNU), Gloucester, MA, 1600s

The last proven generation in my family tree corrections is that of Edward Harraden of Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts.

Edward Harraden was born c1626, likely in England. He married Sarah (MNU), also probably in England.

The births of Mary, Edward and Elizabeth, Edward’s apparent eldest children, are not found in Gloucester town records and it is probable that they, too, was born in England.

Children: (All events in Gloucester)

  1. Mary, born c1650, probably England; died 28 September 1725; married Abraham Robinson, 7 July 1668
  2. Edward, born c1652; married Sarah Haskell, 5 February 1685
  3. Elizabeth, born c1654; married Thomas Prince, 27 September 1676
  4. Andrew, born 13 February 1658; died 4 March 1682/83
  5. Anne, born 2 March 1660; married John Davis, 6 February 1685
  6. Thomas, born 8 September 1665; died 26 April 1683
  7. Joseph, born 18 August 1668; died 19 May 1716; married Jane Giddings, 26 November 1691
  8. Sarah, born 30 July 167; died 3 September 1672
  9. Benjamin, born 11 September 1671; died 3 February 1724/25; married Deborah Norwood, 15 January 1695/96

Edward Harraden died on 17 May 1683 in Gloucester; Sarah survived him by several years, passing away on 4 March 1691, also in Gloucester.

If you are descended from Edward and Sarah, be aware that their surname has been found with multiple spellings, from Haraden to Harradaine and “modernized” to Harrington.

Abraham Robinson & Mary Harraden, Gloucester, MA, 1600s

There are just a handful more posts to finish updating the Haskell-Witham branch of my family tree and these all have to do with Judith’s mother’s side of the family.

Abraham Robinson was born c1643, but whether in New or Old England is unknown. He was the son of Abraham Robinson and Mary (MNU).

Not much more is known about his wife, either. Mary Harraden was born c1650, the daughter of Edward Harraden and Sarah (MNU), again whether in New or Old England is up for grabs.

However, Abraham Robinson and Mary Harraden married in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts on 7 July 1668. They had a large family of ten children – 3 sons and 8 daughters – of whom ten lived to adulthood and married.
