Abraham Robinson, died 1645, Gloucester, MA & Mary (MNU)

This is going to be a very short family sketch.

Abraham Robinson was born c1615, probably in England or Scotland. He married Mary (MNU), again probably before he arrived in New England.

In any case, Abraham Sr. died not long after settling in Massachusetts.

Abraham and Mary had one documented child:

  1. Abraham, born c1643; died 28 December 1724; married Mary Harraden, 7 July 1668. All events took place in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts.

Abraham Robinson died on 23 February 1645 in Gloucester. An inventory of his estate, valued at £18 11s, worth about £1900, or about $2400 today was recorded in Salem [Massachusetts] Quarterly Court Records:

His widow, Mary, married (2) William Browne, 6 July 1646 and (3) Henry Walker, 26 September 1662, both in Gloucester.

Some claim Abraham had a second son, but no documentation is provided to support that statement so it will be left unsaid.

There are just a handful more posts to finish updating the Haskell-Witham branch of my family tree and these all have to do with Judith’s mother’s side of the family.

Abraham Robinson was born c1643, but whether in New or Old England is unknown. He was the son of Abraham Robinson and Mary (MNU).

Not much more is known about his wife, either. Mary Harraden was born c1650, the daughter of Edward Harraden and Sarah (MNU), again whether in New or Old England is up for grabs.

However, Abraham Robinson and Mary Harraden married in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts on 7 July 1668. They had a large family of ten children – 3 sons and 8 daughters – of whom ten lived to adulthood and married.

  2. Sarah, born 17 September 1671; married John Butman, 30 June 1690
  3. Elizabeth, born 112 September 1673; died 4 January 1696/97; married Timothy Somes, 31 December 1695
  4. Abigail, born 4 January 1675; died 13 July 1720; married Joseph York, 10 January 1699/00
  5. Abraham, born 15 October 1677; died 28 December 1724; married Sarah (MNU)
  6. Andrew, born 2 October 1679; married Rebecca Ingersoll, 7 Dec 1704
  7. Stephen, born 9 December 1681; married Sarah (MNU), c1709
  8. Dorcas, born 27 July 1686; married Jonathan Stanwood, 27 August 1707
  9. Deborah, born 12 October 1688; died 16 March 1733; married John Stanwood, 16 June 1707
  10. Hannah, born 27 January 1690; died 13 August 1717; unmarried
  11. Jane, born 13 October 1692; married John Williams, 4 April 1720

Dorcas and Deborah were sisters who married brothers, so they were also sisters-in-law!

Abraham Robinson died on 28 December 1724 in Gloucester. His wife, Mary, survived him by nine months, passing away on 28 September 1725, also in Gloucester.
