Jeffrey Dalling, born c1454, Laxfield, Suffolk, England

The Dalling line is so ancient that with Jeffrey’s daughter Alice the surname daughter’s out of the family tree – and these people were born in the 1400s, which, to me, is incredible.

Jeffrey Dalling was born c1454, likely in Laxfield, Suffolk, England, where he appears to have lived his whole life. He was the son of William Dalling and Margaret (MNU), also of Laxfield.

Jeffrey Dalling married (1) Unknown (MNU) (widow), c1478.

They were the parents of five children:

  1. Alice, born c1480; names in the 1536 will of her brother, William; married Geoffrey Fiske
  2. Margaret, born c1484; died after 1536 when she is named in the will of her brother, William; married Unknown Lyon of Soham, Suffolk, England
  3. William, born c1488; died between 23 April 1536 and 30 July 1536; unmarried
  4. Robert, born c1492; died between 27 October 1558 and 18 January 1559/60, dates of his will and probate, probably in Laxfield, Suffolk, England; married Joan (MNU)
  5. John, born c1496; died between 1 January 1561 and 7 December 1563, dates of his will and probate, probably in St. Nicholas, South Elmham, Suffolk, Eng;and; married Unknown (MNU)

Children of Jeffrey Dalling and Katheryn (MNU):

  1. Jane, born c1514 (under 22 years in 1535); named in her father’s 1535 will
  2. Nicholas, born c1516 (under 22 years in 1535; named in his father’s 1535 will

William Dalling & Margaret (MNU), Laxfield, Suffolk, England, 1400s

As I fill in each branch of my cousins’ early family tree, I keep thinking I am almost finished. However, so much professional research has been done of these lines in the last few decades that many of the earliest families were born in the 1300s and 1400s. My cousins have no idea how lucky they are that this difficult research has been published by some of the most highly regarded genealogists in the field today.

William Dalling was born c1424 and lived in Laxfield, Suffolk, England. He died between 20 October 1471 and 8 February 1472/73, the dates of his will and probate.

William Dalling married Margaret (MNU), named in his will.

Children of William and Margaret (MNU) Dalling:

  1. Alice, born c1450; named in her father’s will with no surname; possibly already married
  2. Jeffrey, born c1454; died between 1 June 1535 and 15 July 1535, the dates of his will and probate; married (1) Unknown (MNU) (2) Katheryn (MNU)

This concludes the very short family sketch of William and Margaret (MNU) Dalling.
