GenealogyBranches by Joe Beine

Everyone once in a while, I come across new websites with lots of excellent resources to be browsed.

Joe Beine’s GenealogyBranches is just such a website.

His description is simple: While working on various genealogy projects I have come across some items that I decided to share on the web. With this website I have grouped them together and categorized them. I hope that others will find these genealogy articles, records sources and tips useful. -Joe Beine

There are links to Military Records, Naturalization Records, Ship Passenger Lists, State Genealogy Guides and Online Records, Census Records, County Histories and Indexes Online, Irish Genealogy, Online Death Indexes and Records and German Genealogy. Not all states have links, but many do.

While I have a County Histories icon at the top of this blog page, with links to all the digitized books I could find online for free,

GenealogyBranches’ links include other formats, such as WPA guides that have been compiled along with several state and town guides, some in PDF format. It’s well worth taking some time to browse.

The Census Records section includes not only the U.S., but also Canada and Ireland. [Note: did you know that Library and Archives Canada has its censuses online and they can be accessed/saved for free?]

Every single category has lists of interesting links. Most links take the reader to what I would call underused resources.

GenealogyBranches was launched in 2003, but it’s a new-to-me fun collection of genealogical resource links.

What Day Was That???

Have you ever come across a document and wondered what day of the week the event happened?

CalendarHome is a website you’ll want to bookmark. It offers many free links for calendars, including printing out free photo calendars with art by classic artists, links to websites with historical calendar information, and even a Genealogy category with links.

However, if you want to find out on which day of the week a calendar date happened, head to the Date Calculators:

Another hug help in Date Calculators is the option to subtract one date from another to determine, say, age at death on a gravestone.

CalendarHome has everything a genealogist, or anyone else, would want to know about calendars. It’s easy to use and free! Check it out.
