12 for ’26: Descendants of Michael Stufflebeam Through Grandson Oliver Perry Stufflebeam (1838-1914)

Oliver Perry Stufflebeam was the first child born to John E. Stufflebeam and his second wife, Harriet Ostrander. Eleanor roland, John’s first wife, died on 23 October 1836 in Warren County, Indiana.

With six young children at home, John quickly married (2) Harriet Ostrander on 24 February 1837, also in Warren County, Indiana. They went on to have found children of their own.

Oliver Perry Stufflebeam was born on 18 February 1838 and lived his whole life in Warren County, where he was born.

Oliver, or O.P. or Perry, as he also appears in records, married Anna Johnson on 6 March 1862, Tippecanoe County, Indiana.

Although Oliver and Anna were the parents of nine children, one died in childhood and three adult children had no children of their own.

Oliver Perry Stufflebeam died on 13 April 1914 and wife Anna Johnson died thirteen months later on 22 May 1915, both in Vermilion County, Illinois.

Families were beginning to get smaller by the turn of the 20th century, but there are quite a few descendants of the nine children born to these families.

The second child of John E. Stufflebeam and Harriet Ostrander was Morgan Stufflebeam, the same man (and half brother) who handled the estate in trust of Michael Stufflebeam (1827-1907).

Morgan Stufflebeam married Sarah Catherine Van Reed on 25 September 1873. However, they had only two sons, one of whom died soon after birth and the other who married, but had no children. Therefore, Morgan Stufflebeam has no descendants living today.

Next up is the family sketch of the third of John and Harriet’s children, Miller Ostrander Stufflebeam.
