April Fools’ Day isn’t a day typically associated with family history, but many of us can remember childhood days where one or more friends pranked family members and friends on the 1st of April.
I never pranked anyone else, but I remember hoping the day would pass without me falling victim to a prank or joke. It definitely wasn’t one of my favorite days of the year.
Although specific pranks have long disappeared from my memory, I do have vague recollections of exasperated teachers warning students that punishment would follow any more April Fools jokes in the classroom.
The origin of April Fools’ Day is unknown, although many countries in Europe, North America and the Middle East have cultural traditions and sayings pertaining to the day.
Beware of April Fools’ Day pranks today, whether they be genealogical or other related!
April Fool’s Day and a full moon!!! I seem to remember occasional pranks at school, but in general pranks aren’t my thing. One year the engineers at my Alma Mater put a Mickey Mouse watch face over the clock faces on the Clock Tower! That I loved.
