William Fisher, likely born in Wingfield, Suffolk, England c1527, was the son of Robert Fisher and an unknown wife.
However, in adulthood, William moved to the adjoining villages of Syleham and Stradbroke, both also in Suffolk, England. He may have lived near the village borders, as his children were alternately baptized in one village and then the other.
William married Margerie Bert, daughter of William Bert, on 15 October 1551 in Stradbroke, Suffolk, England. Eventually the family removed to St. James South Elmham, about 7 miles from Syleham. His occupation was that of yeoman farmer.
William was educated, proved by the fact that his will was written in his own hand.
William and Margerie were the parents of five children:
- Johanna, baptized 15 September 1553, Stradbroke, Suffolk, England; married George Bugge of Creeting, Suffolk, England
- William, baptized 20 July 1556, Syleham, Suffolk, England; died between 9 June 1618, when his will was written and 8 April 1619, when it was proved; married Alice Aldous, 9 October 1587, Fressingfield, Suffolk, England
- Anthony, baptized 1 February 1558/59, Stradbroke, Suffolk, England; buried 11 April 1640, Syleham, Suffolk, England; married Marie Fiske, 16 October 1586, Fressingfield, Suffolk, England
- Agnes, baptized 1 February 1558/59; buried 4 January 1562/63, both at Stradbroke, Suffolk, England
- Jane, baptized 15 December 1560, Stradbroke, Suffolk, England; buried 15 October 1626, Fressingfield, Suffolk, England; married Francis Wosnaugh, 21 April 1585, Fressingfield, Suffolk, England
Death dates for William and Margerie (Bert) Fisher are unknown. However, William wrote his will on 14 June 1591 and it was probated about two months later on 9 August 1591.
