Amos Douthit was the fifth child of Abraham and Valinda (Jarvis) Douthit and the least is known about him.
Amos was born c1825, likely in Davidson County, North Carolina and, as a teenager, he made the westward move with his parents and siblings to Arkansas by 1840.
Amos married sometime after the 1850 census, when he was enumerated in the home of his brother Henry in Van Buren, Newton, Missouri.
Sometime between the 1850 census and perhaps 1853, Amos married an unknown wife or, at the least, had an affair with a young lady which resulted in the birth of Amos’s son, Thomas Burton Douthit, around 1853 in Missouri.
I found one undocumented reference to the possible name of his wife – L—– J—– D—–, which I don’t want to repeat here for fear that someone will not read carefully and claim to know the name of Amos’s wife.
Amos was enumerated once more, in 1860, as “Doufitt” and was living with his aunt, Susannah Alberty, and her family. also in the home was his son, Thomas B. “Doufitt,” who was seven years old.
Amos was dead by 19 September 1865 as his estate administration in Newton County was handled by his brother, Henry Burton Douthit.

Sadly, only nine years later, on 31 March 1874, Henry was also the estate administrator for Thomas Burton Douthit, minor:

Thomas, born c1853, apparently died when he was about 20 years old, unmarried.
Therefore, Amos Douthit has no known descendants today. If you happen to come across his marriage record proving the name of his wife, please leave a comment!
