12 for ’26: Descendants of Michael Stufflebeam Through Grandson Henry Thomas Stufflebam (c1845-1914)

No, there is no typo in the title of this post. Henry Thomas and his family actually adopted the spelling of STUFFLEBAM! I originally believed this to be a mistake by a census taker, but the family appears in multiple records this way and Henry’s son, a medical doctor, also used this spelling. So, for whatever reason, Henry decided to slightly change the family name. Why? the reason will probably never be known, but it’s not like the name was Smith and there were too many of them in the neighborhood!

Henry Thomas Stufflebeam was born c1845 in Warren County, Indiana, the fourth child and second son born to John S. and Jane (Stufflebeam) Stufflebeam. Census records later on add about ten years to his age, which doesn’t fit with his childhood appearances in the census records.

Henry Thomas Stufflebeam married Isabella Jane Lamar on 26 December 1867, Crawford County, Kansas, but moved to Missouri soon after.
