Today marks the unofficial end of summer time, although the calendar tells us we have about 3 more weeks.
In past years, Labor Day weekend was the traditional final weekend before the new school year began on the Tuesday following the Monday Labor Day holiday.
Also in previous years, families had picnics and many towns held a parade, but that is rarely the case today. In the 20th century, Labor Day became a popular day to finish up back-to-school shopping. That’s not true anymore, either, since many schools begin the fall term in early August.

However you choose to celebrate the holiday, have a great time as we bid goodbye to the warm weather and head into fall.
