Can it really be August already? I have to admit, thought, that while temperatures in Tucson have been hot during the day, it has cooled off more at night for more days than any other summer I can remember here. That’s a good thing because it doesn’t already feel like it’s baking hot when I go out at 5:00 a.m. to bring in the newspaper.
In addition to August’s arrival, it’s also the first weekend of the month so it’s time for Randy Seaver’s weekly Saturday Night Genealogy Fun challenge:
1) Have you been down a genealogy rabbit hole lately? What was it, and what did you find? [If not, go find a rabbit hole! Try your FamilySearch Notifications or Ancestry.com Photos or Stories.]
I’ve actually been down several rabbit holes lately because of genealogy emails that have arrived in my inbox, asking about various ancestral families.
The most interesting adventure was from someone who found my Stufflebean stories online. This person was the owner of two tintype photos that had been in his family forever and the couple was only known as “Mr. and Mrs. Stufflebean.”
He was interested in finding out if he was a descendant of this couple and, if so, how they were related to him.
I have a long version of this story, complete with a surprise ending, coming up in my queue, but the short version is that, from the bare bones he told me about his family and a connection to Vermont, I was able to identify the only likely couple and his family connection, which was only by marriage.
It only took me a couple of hours of research and both he and his mother were thrilled to have the Mr. and Mrs. Stufflebean mystery solved. You’ll have to wait for the complete story in a few weeks!
Thanks, Randy, for this week’s challenge. Rabbit holes always make for excellent topics.
Can’t wait to read the story! I love that you still have a newspaper delivered. We do, too, except I also get the digital version, which I read. My husband likes the paper version best. It’s been cool here this summer, too, with morning overcast.
My husband likes paper, period. Don’t ask about all the paper receipts stacked up in his room and file folders filled with stuff all over the place!
I’m always happy to hear that photos have been identified. It’s great that you were able to determine who the couple was in his photograph. I look forward to reading about the research.
