We have finally reached the end of this series on the descendants of Andrew and Rebecca (Wooldridge) Bandy. There are hundreds of descendants today.
The final post about this family will appear tomorrow when I explain the convoluted research needed to figure out the family of William and Sarah (Howard) Bandy, whose sketch was shared a few days ago.
I recently found 2 interesting documents for Lucinda. Her obituary in The Minink News Dispatch 13 May 1920 states she was born in Ironton Ohio March 4, 1842, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bandy. Her death certificate from Woodford, Illinois also lists Samuel Bandy as her father. There is a Lucinda Bandy in the household of Andrew and Rebecca Bandy in the 1850 census age 8. I have had Lucinda as the daughter of Andrew and Rebecca for years. Now I question this.
Lucinda is at home with Andrew and Rebecca in 1850, but there is no Lucinda at home with Samuel and Sidney in Illinois in 1850. Andrew, Rebecca, Samuel and Sidney were all long gone by the time Lucinda died. Also, the person who gave the info for the obituary and death record might have been the same person and was mistaken. The census is a primary record. Not so the death record and obituary in terms of parents’ names. Lacking any other documents tying Lucinda to Samuel, I would trust the census even though it doesn’t say she was a daughter, just in the home in 1850.
I agree. You have done such good work on this family, I trust those instincts. I meant to say something about Samuel and Sidney’s son, George. He was born January 1842 and Lucinda was born March 1842. This agrees with the 1900 census data for both and agrees with their death records. They could not have been brother and sister.
