Genetic Genealogy Basics, Second Edition: Genealogy at a Glance – Review

DISCLAIMER – I have received several complimentary items, including Genealogy at a Glance: Genetic Genealogy Basics, Second Edition, published in 2019, by Angie Bush to review. These perks do not influence my opinions of the publications in any way!

Having said that, I do believe that the Genealogical Publishing Company, which has been in business for many decades, has a long standing reputation for producing quality work.

Angie Bush is a well respected genetic genealogist with degrees in molecular biology and biotechnology, making her a top choice to author Genetic Genealogy Basics, Second Edition.

Although I’ve taken both autosomal DNA tests and the full sequence mtDNA test, I have only dabbled with using DNA in conjunction with my genealogical research. (That’s mostly because I don’t have the brick walls that might crack with DNA results added into the mix.)

Therefore, I looked at this guide through beginner eyes to see what I might learn.

Tips for Getting the Most from DNA Testing

Like all Genealogy at a Glance guides, Genetic Genealogy Basics, Second Edition, is four pages encased in hard lamination to protect it over prolonged use.

Ms. Bush’s guide is a succinct overview of the beginning steps to learning about genetic genealogy. I am apparently more advanced than a DNA beginner at this stage of my researching career and believe that this guide includes the most salient points of adding DNA results to one’s genealogical repertoire.

DNA can be a difficult topic to understand, but this guide clearly outlines the what, how and where of DNA testing.

I would recommend Genealogy at a Glance: Genetic Genealogy Basics, Second Edition for those who have no DNA experience or knowledge whatsoever, but who are considering the use of DNA tests in conjunction with family history research.

Genealogy at a Glance: Genetic Genealogy Basics, Second Edition by Angie Bush can be ordered for $9.95 online at Genealogical Publishing Company.

  1. Thanks for the review – I will refer to it again next year when I look to add more genealogy books to the collection at the library where I work (already bought a DNA book this year)…
