Saturday Night Genealogy Fun — Your Genealogy Database Statistics

It’s time once again for Randy Seaver’s weekly Saturday Night Genealogy Fun. This week’s challenge is to share our genealogy database statistics.

I am going to share two of my trees, as a comparison, mostly for myself. I am a FTM latecomer to RootsMagic and imported my husband’s tree and my own. I then imported a second version of my own tree, stripped of all the documents and images, as I got the crazy idea to try to rename all of the items and actually use source citation templates to document them all. (In the past, with Family Tree Maker, I buried my sources in my notes.)

First is my husband’s tree:

Dave’s Tree

There are:

  • People: 7800
  • Families: 3772
  • Events: 19,740
  • Alternate Names: 1,386
  • Places: 3,383
  • Sources: 139
  • Citations: 7,147
  • Repositories: 2
  • To-do Tasks: 0
  • Research Logs: 0
  • Multimedia Items: 6,317
  • Multimedia Links: 12,949
  • Addresses: 0
  • Correspondence: 0

Now to compare with my stripped down tree:

RMDatabaseCrop2
Linda’s Tree

My tree has:

  • People: 7,517
  • Families: 3,175
  • Events: 11,022
  • Alternate Names: 136
  • Places: 1,577
  • Sources: 79
  • Citations: 539
  • Repositories: 2
  • To-Do Tasks: 0
  • Research Logs: 0
  • Multimedia Items: 125
  • Multimedia Tasks: 167
  • Addresses: 0
  • Correspondence: 0

I have a ways to go with the multimedia items and citations in my tree because there are over 5000 attached in Family Tree Maker.
