This post isn’t quite wordless, but it is short!
My grandfather, Vernon Adams, worked for the Western Union for many years. He traveled a lot for his job and, much to my mother’s chagrin, the family moved up and down the East Coast between Maine and New Jersey as she was growing up.
Here is an undated news clipping that my grandmother, Hazel, had in her papers and mementos.
My mother said they lived in New York once. She was born in 1923 and the family lived in Portland, Maine through most of the 1930’s, before they moved to Tenafly and then Ridgewood, New Jersey.
That narrows the time frame down for this promotion to somewhere between 1923 and the 1930 census, when they were already living in Portland.
Also, Grandfather was born in 1899 and he easily could be in his late 20’s in this picture.
From the wording in this article, I am assuming it appeared in the local Bangor, Maine newspaper. I wish Grandmother had written the date on it!
