Lewis D. Greenwood Family

There is one more antique photo I would like to return to a descendant if one can be found.

Lewis (aka Louis) D. Greenwood was born about 1846, probably in Farmington, Franklin Co., Maine. He was the son of Noah Cresey Greenwood (1811-1894) and Susan Tarbox (1824-1863). Susan was the daughter of William and Judith Haskell Tarbox and a sister of George Rogers and Benjamin Franklin Tarbox of New Gloucester, Cumberland, Maine.

Lewis married Hannah Bertha Hall about 1867, possibly in Portland, Cumberland, Maine. He died 1 Oct 1885 in Portland and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery there. Bertha survived him and was still living in Portland in 1900, but it appears she wasn’t buried with Lewis.

Bertha reported in 1900 that she had given birth to six children, with four surviving. The 1880 and 1900 Portland, Maine censuses show:

Ralph H., born c1868, Maine
Maude J., born 9 July 1870, Portland, ME
Charles A., born February 1881, Maine
Josie M., born November 1883, Maine

Ralph married Rachel (MNU) and remained in the Portland area for the rest of his life. He died 1 Oct 1935. Rachel was born June 1868 and died 121 Feb 1934. Both are buried at Evergreen Cemetery.

They had three sons: Louis De Alva, born 21 July, 1887 and died 16 Nov 1965. Willard Lincoln Clifton was born June 1889 and died 15 Apr 1966. Walter H.E.L. was born Oct 1891 and died 12 Feb 1962. All three sons are buried in the family plot with their parents. It isn’t know whether Louis married, but Walter married Grace (MNU) and had perhaps four children – Madeline B., Richard J., Bellvida B.  and Betty Ann.

Madeline was born 27 Feb 1911 and died 29 July 2006, Windham, ME. She married Mr. Sylvia. Richard J. was born about 1914 and died after 1930. Bellvida B. was born about 1917 and died after 1930. Betty Ann was born about 1926 and died after 1930.

In 1940, Willard was married to Marjorie D. (MNU) who was born about 1890. No children are in the home and they haven’t been found in censuses from 1910-1930.

Maude married Malcolm Grant Clark on 26 Oct 1892 in Portland, ME. By 1910, they were living in Burlington, VT and had four children: Douglas B., Richard J., Everett H. and Isabella.

Nothing further is known about Bellvida and Betty Ann Greenwood.
