UPDATE: Rev. Enoch Alexander Brown & Sarah Brasher, Christian County, KY

Sarah Brasher was the fourth daughter in a family of ten children born to Lawrence Brasher & Elizabeth Black.

Sarah was born on 13 February 1809 in South Carolina, but likely remembered nothing of her life there as the Brashers moved to Kentucky when she was just a toddler.

Enoch Alexander Brown was also a Southern who migrated to Kentucky, as he was born on 27 October 1805 in Georgia.

Enoch and Sarah married on 17 March 1831 in Christian County, Kentucky. They lived the rest of their lives there as Enoch died on 11 June 1882 and Sarah on 24 August 1884. They are buried in one of the Brown family cemeteries.

Enoch and Sarah were the parents of six children.

All events were in Christian County, Kentucky unless stated otherwise.

Children: (Brown)

  1. Omar S., born 13 January 1832; died 28 October 1903; married (1) Catherine Marion Davis, 31 May 1866 (2) Nannie C. Myers, c1897.
  2. Marcus D., born June 1833; died 18 April 1919; married Lucetta M. Davis, 7 October 1861.
  3. Elizabeth, born 17 March 1837; died 23 May 1856, aged 19 years; unmarried
  4. Albert E., born 21 January 1840; died 18 May 1862, from wounds received in the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee; unmarried
  5. Onamile (Onnie) Jane, born about 21 February 1842; died 30 June 1922; married Volney Columbus Clark, 13 October 1869. Her gravestone says born 1840, but brother Albert was born that year and census records place her birth c1842.
  6. Cyrus M., born 28 February 1848; died 9 August 1896; unmarried

It would be interesting to know the inspiration for Omar’s and Onamile’s names as they are very unusual for the time and place. Even Marcus and Cyrus are relatively uncommon. Perhaps that was the intent with a surname like Brown!

Daughter Elizabeth, son Albert and youngest child Cyrus didn’t marry and have no known descendants.

Omar was the parent of one daughter born to his first wife, Catherine.

Marcus and Lucetta were the parents of eight children.

Onnie was the mother of three children, but only one living in 1900.

Therefore, like Sarah’s brother Elijah, she and Enoch were parents to six children, but only three have descendants.
