Saturday Night Genealogy Fun: How Will You, Or Did You, Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday?

Today is the Semiquincentennal Birthday of the United States of America. Fittingly, Randy Seaver has an America 250! themed challenge for us today.

1) It is the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence today.

2)  How will you celebrate the day?  Or, how did you celebrate the day?

It was a quiet day, but I did wear my red shorts with a white tee shirt that has a knitted U.S. flag on the front, so I am patriotically dressed.

We’re having BBQed hamburgers and french fries for dinner, topped off with homemade strawberry shortcake.

When it gets dark, we’ll watch some of the fireworks in the area from our backyard as we have a view of the Tucson valley. The only impediment might be the unexpected cloudy day that we are having. No rain is expected, though, so the shows should still go on.

I have six ancestors who gave military, patriotic or civil service during the Revolutionary War and I’m proud and thankful for their parts in founding America.

  1. A great way to celebrate with hamburgers and french fries, and watching fireworks. Though we did go down to watch ours, our neighbors down the street put on a show.
