Disclaimer: I receive a complimentary subscription to MyHeritage, but my opinions are my own and not affected by any compensations.
MyHeritage not only continues to expand their record collections, but its tech department has created two new innovative products to share our family histories with relatives and friends.
First, let’s look at Family Infographics, which creates poster-like illustrations of an ancestor’s life.
The steps to create an infographic are quick and simple.
- Select a person from your MyHeritage family tree.
- Next, select one of fifteen styles for your infographic.
- A list of facts already entered about the selected person will appear. There is an option to add additional facts that might be used in the infographic. It will ask you to add a photo, if you haven’t already done so.
- Click CONTINUE and a message saying an email will be sent to you when it is ready appears.
That’s all there is to it!
I chose my 3X great grandfather, George Rogers Tarbox (1818-1895) of Maine and Massachusetts and I chose the WASH format style.
Here is George’s Infographic:

I love the layout of information about George’s life. The image of “George” loosely resembles the photo I uploaded:

Perhaps in the future, the Infographic program will be able to direct upload that actual photo into its display.
Also, the image of his first marriage to Deborah Grover is a bit too modern looking. Two wedding images like the one for his second marriage would be more realistic.
However, those are minor considerations.
Overall, I think young family members would really enjoy this quick “snapshot” of an ancestor’s life.
I also tried out the Tribute Reel, which has a similar choice format to the Infographic. However, the Tribute Reel asked for at least five photos to make it more interesting. The same message about a notice being emailed to me when it was ready was sent.
By the way, both creations only took a few minutes from start to receiving the finished product.
I think the Tribute Reel takes a bit of planning. This first reel is just 20 seconds long with two animated photos and my five images appeared in an order that didn’t make much sense. I’ll have to play around with this and add many more items as I have quite a few images and documents about George and his family.
Next, I decided to create a reel that provided an overview of life in Calais, Maine in the early 1900s. I was able to rearrange the images, which are vintage postcards in my personal collection.
I’m definitely going to be experimenting more with the Infographics and the Tribute Reels!
Overall, both the Family Infographics and the Tribute Reels are fun ways to share our family history. MyHeritage subscribers can create multiple items, but non-subscribers can try these out and create one Infographic and one Tribute Reel.
It’s interesting to see these features in action. Personally, I have a hard time with animated photos. But I do think younger generations, with far more exposure to AI assisted creations, might well find these more captivating than traditional presentation of family details. I’ll be watching to see your next creations!
