Saturday Night Genealogy Fun: Your 2025 “Dear Genea-Santa” Letter

It’s time for our annual letter to Genea-Santa and Randy Seaver is prompting us to get that letter written on Saturday Night Genealogy Fun this week.

1) Write your 2025 Genea-Santa letter. Have you been a good genealogy girl or boy? What genealogy-oriented items are on your Christmas wish list? They could be family history items, technology items, or things that you want to pursue in your ancestral quest.

Here it goes:

Dear Genea-Santa,

I’ve been a pretty good girl this year. Not only have I worked on my own genealogy education this year, I’ve continued to teach my monthly genealogy class here at home. My students celebrated with our holiday brunch yesterday and everyone thanked me for what they have learned, so I think I’m doing a good job.

I’ve also continued rescuing vintage photos and mailed them off with short family histories to descendants of the people in the pictures. This year, five of the recipients got in touch to say they were grateful to receive that unexpected gift.

My blog has added resources for researchers so I can help others find their family members, too, and my second cousin appreciated all the information I was able to find for his mother’s family.

I hope I’ve shared enough of the positive ways I’ve been a good genea-helper so that you will consider granting my 2025 wish list, which is very short.

I would love to find the Great Migration Directory: Immigrants to New England, 1620–1640 — A Concise Compendium, 2nd Edition by Robert Charles Anderson under the Christmas tree this year.

That gift will help with the maternal branch of my tree.

There is also a brand new book that will help me understand more about my paternal tree, which consists of Carpatho-Rusyns.

That book is Out of Nowhere: The Art of Carpathian Rus’ by Paul Robert Magocsi.

As always, Genea-Santa, I’ve baked up a storm and will leave you a plate of my homemade cookies with a big glass of milk to keep you fortified as you continue your journey around the world on Christmas Eve with Rudolph and the other reindeer.

P.S. Outside in the backyard, you’ll find a pile of grasses, herbs and grasses for the reindeer.

Merry Christmas!
