Saturday Night Genealogy Fun: Try Out the FamilySearch “Famous Relatives” Page

We are closing out June with a Saturday Night Genealogy Fun challenge from Randy Seaver, using FamilySearch:

1)  FamilySearch has a page for “Famous Relatives” at   https://www.familysearch.org/en/discovery/famousrelatives.  It works if you are connected to the FamilySearch Family Tree.

2)  Check out the website.  Which connection surprises you?  Do you believe that the connection is correct?

I am in the FamilySearch family tree and don’t expect any famous relatives on the paternal Rusyn side of the family tree, given the very limited information that only extends to my 2X greats and the names of a few 3X great grandparents. There just aren’t any records.

However, with my mother’s colonial New England lines, I expected something to appear.

So, my surprise was this message:

This was a really quick SNGF challenge for me!

  1. That seems very unusual that your colonial line wouldn’t have connections to famous people. Surely there must be a glitch.

  2. I too am surprised given your very deep roots in the USA and my non-existent ones…I had at least a dozen results. Seems a bit fishy to me – maybe the algorithm messed up?
