It’s spring time and temperatures next week are set to be in the 90s! It’s also time for Saturday Night Genealogy Fun with Randy Seaver.
Here’s this week’s challenge:
1) What plans, or potential plans, do you have to pass your genealogy work to relatives and/or descendants, or posterity?
I think we might have had this topic before or else I just got the idea and wrote up a post after seeing someone else write about it.
My son has minimal interest in the family history. If there is an interesting tidbit or story, he’s interested and he’s proud of his heritage on both side of the family. However, he has no interest in taking up the research when I’m gone.
My main concern is the few sentimental items that I’ve inherited through the years and have decided that I will offer them to cousins and their children as they have shown interested in the family history.
My original photos and documents will be passed down in the same way. I got rid of paper copies long ago and have digital versions of everything in my archival albums.
I can and do share the digital collection with extended family members.
As for my blog, when I’m gone, I hope the Wayback Machine is still around and readers will be able to access Empty Branches in the future.
That’s the quick version of my plans! Thanks, Randy, for this topic. It’s something everyone needs to think about.
I forgot about the WayBack Machine. I will post the stories from my blog there, as well as upload any books I write to the Internet Archive.
You definitely sound more organized than I am. And thank you for the mention of the Wayback Machine. That is an excellent way to save digital items. I hope it is around as long as FamilySearch.
