It’d mid-March and lots of excellent things are coming up. St. Patrick’s Day is just two days away, spring arrives later in the week and, best of all, we are on DST, which I love!
It’s also the weekend so Randy Seaver has presented his newest challenge for Saturday Night Genealogy Fun and it’s difficult!
1) Legacy Family Tree Webinars provides free and/or subscription education to genealogists every week. What were your favorite webinars over, say, the past 3 months?
I love Legacy Family Tree Webinars and have been a member for years – even before the pandemic brought online education to the forefront.
I’m glad Randy clarified the timeline and narrowed it down to the past 3 months.
I do have to admit that several of Randy’s favorites are on my list, too. Here are my favorites:
- Danish Probate Records by Jenny Hansen (13 March 2025). My maternal great grandmother’s family was from Denmark so I loved this talk.
- Shootout at the Rhododendron Lodge: Reconstructing Life-Changing Events by Judy G. Russell (25 February 2025). All about methodology!
- Soldiers, Squatters and Settlers—early settlements in Upper Canada by Christine Woodcock. (21 February 2025). Children of my Loyalist Robert Carlisle left New Brunswick and settled in Ontario.
- 10 Practical Uses of AI for Family History by Andrew Redfern (24 January 2025). I am not as keen about using AI myself, although I love all the behind the scenes uses like full-text search, but I do want to know how others are using it.
- DNA: Proof, Citation & Privacy by Elizabeth Shown Mills (27 December 2024). This capped a long series, I think 2 years, of talks by Elizabeth Shown Mills. They were all excellent.
- Researching in 17th Century Connecticut by Ann G. Lawthers (12 December 2024) I have a whole tree branch there in the 1600s and early 1700s.
These were my favorite presentations. If you aren’t a member, sign up so you can access all the handouts, which aren’t available to non-members viewing the class when it’s free.
Thanks, Randy, for a great topic this week.
You have some of my favorites, too. I watched that Upper Canada one, but its focus was earlier than when my Irish showed up. I’m not as keen about AI, so don’t watch as many as there have been.
