HELP!!!!
If anyone can shed light on this couple, I would most appreciate it!
Martha Emaline (Williams) Gydes was born on 4 July 1866, Roane County, Tennessee and died on 27 February 1939 in Roane County, Tennessee. Her parents are noted as Matthias Williams and Elizabeth Shackelford. Martha is also said to be the wife of (NOT single, divorced or widow of) Henry Clay Gydes. Her address was R5, Bx 89, Loudon, Tennessee. The informant on her death certificate was Ben Kelley, R2, Loudon, Tennessee and Martha was buried in Prospect Cemetery.
Henry Clay Gydes was born c1864, Tennessee, the son of Joseph Gydes, born c1815, Tennessee, and who was living in Blount County, Tennessee in 1870. Henry Clay Gydes was also listed in the male voters of Roane County, Tennessee in 1891, born c1865.
That sums up what I have been able to learn about this couple.
Martha was at home with her parents for the 1870 and 1880 census.
No marriage record has been found for Henry and Martha nor have they been located in any census from 1900-1940, using many different wild card searches.
Ben Kelley is nowhere to be found near Loudon County in 1930 or 1940.
Martha appears to have no gravestone.
Questions to be answered:
When did Henry Clay Gydes die? Before 1900 or was Martha’s death certificate correct calling her the wife, not the widow, of Henry?
Did Henry and Martha have any children?
Where did Martha live all those years? She lived and died in the same area where her family had lived.
This has been one of my Williams brick walls for many years. Where are these people hiding???
