Jurecsko Family of Udol, Slovakia

This family is part of my one-place study of St. Dimitry’s Greek Catholic (today Byzantine Catholic) Church parish, serving Udol and Hajtovka, Slovakia, covering the years 1827-about 1920. I will be sharing family records, roughly once a week, until all families in the parish are posted. Be aware that ages at marriage and death frequently don’t match baptismal records, when found. If you have ancestors who lived in these two villages and would like to receive an invitation to a shared Dropbox folder, please leave a comment and I will contact you.

Jurcso alias Fengya, Michael (recte Jurcsiv) & Maria Knapik, Ujak, GC, GC – See Kravcsak.

Michael seems to have had two aliases – Fengya alias Jurcsiv and Jurcsiv alias Kravcsak, since both men were about the same age and both married to Maria Knapik – unless there were two different Maria Knapiks, which is possible. However, both couples had sons named Michael within two years of each other and both sons died soon. No other records have been found for them.
Children:

  1. Michael, born 29 August, bp 11 September 1870; died 17 January, buried 19 January 1871, aged 4 months, 2 weeks

Jurecsko, Stephen, son of Michael, Ujak 61, born cSeptember 1861, died 30 July, buried 1 August 1862, aged 10 months

Jurecsko appears in many spelling forms and all seem to be variations of Jurko, the nickname for George. In America, it is also spelled Jurechko and Jureczko.

It is not a name limited to eastern Slovakia, either, by any means so careful research needs to be done to tie into this small Udol family.
