This week’s Saturday Night Genealogy Fun challenge with Randy Seaver is one of nostalgia:
Do you have a favorite photograph of your father?
There are actually two photos that immediately come to mind, both of which were taken when I was fairly young.
These are both very casual photos, but they bring back lots of fond memories.
This first photo was taken about 1956. Dad is sitting in the rocking chair which belonged to my 2X great grandmother and was passed down in the family. I’m the current caretaker.
That’s not why I chose it, though. Dad loved to watch TV and I loved to watch TV with him. As you can see, I had my own little rocking chair.
The big dark square on the right is the TV set!
This second picture was taken a few years later, probably around 1959. Dad also loved to dance and he tried to teach me using the “put your feet on my feet” method.
I managed to “dance” okay that way, but I never did master real dancing, mainly because I can’t dance to the beat of the music!
I can still hear Dad’s Al Jolson songs, Mitch Miller and Perry Como playing on the hi-fi.
Lots of fun memories.
Thanks, Randy, for this week’s challenge.
What lovely photos! How sweet of your dad to try to teach you to dance.
Both photos are wonderful but the one I like best is the second one, not only because your dad is so carefully teaching you, but also because of the drawing on the wall. Great artist in the making. I love that your family put your drawings up to decorate the walls!
I wondered if anyone was going to notice the art work. In second grade, we had to write about our father, probably for Father’s Day, and I imagine, we had to draw a picture of him to accompany the explanation. I actually still have a practice page of what I wrote!
