St. Valentine’s Greeting
by Ellen H. Clapsaddle
What the star is
to the even,
The blossom to the bee,
The soft breeze to the leaflet,
That, Love, thou art to me.
This cute valentine was sent to Mary Howell from Harry. Unfortunately, it was hand delivered, so there is no postmark with date or place and Harry didn’t sign his full name.
Ellen Hattie Clapsaddle (1865-1934) is a well known American commercial artist whose illustrations grace the front of many vintage postcards, making them highly collectible.
I have a number of her postcards, as many of her images had a focus on American holidays.
Happy Valentine’s Day
How charming! And you’re so fortunate to have it!
