Belej Family of Udol, Slovakia

This family is part of my one-place study of St. Dimitry’s Greek Catholic (today Byzantine Catholic) Church parish, serving Udol and Hajtovka, Slovakia, covering the years 1827-about 1920. I will be sharing family records, roughly once a week, until all families in the parish are posted. Be aware that ages at marriage and death frequently don’t match baptismal records, when found. If you have ancestors who lived in these two villages and would like to receive an invitation to a shared Dropbox folder, please leave a comment and I will contact you.

  1. Hello Linda,
I have an Anna Kosztikzak (born circa 1775) married to Petr Knap in Udol. They were my 4th great grandparents. I’m wondering if Helen Kosztizak, married to John Belej, was related to Anna?

  2. So maybe way out there in this one lol.. family’s original surname was Bellej or Belej from Porac, not sure if that’s anywhere near udol? Name was changed to Bailey ( told that was closest American pronunciation) and our current surname of Koballa was added? Heard Koballa could have possibly been a name of a measurement of land ? And was added to differenciate our specific clan? Any information pointing me in correct direction?
