Another week has flown by and it is time for Randy Seaver’s weekly challenge on Saturday Night Genealogy Fun.
This week’s topic is a bit different:
1) We’re all familiar with Timelines – date, location, event, etc. – for events in our lives. This week, create a Place Line for your life, or for the life of one of your parents or grandparents – your choice! In that Place Line, tell us the location (address if possible), inclusive dates (if possible), and events. Consider topics like residence, schools, churches, employment, etc.
Choosing whose place line is pretty easy – mine! My father only lived in two houses his entire life and my grandparents (and therefore my mother) moved so many times, my mother couldn’t even remember everywhere they lived. My grandfather worked for Western Union and was transferred up and down the East Coast between New Jersey and Maine multiple times. My mother said every time they got settled in at school and made some friends, they had to pack up and move again.
My Place Line:
Homes
1. 49 Summer Street, Passaic, New Jersey – Birth until 7 December 1963. I remember we moved on Pearl Harbor Day and a couple of weeks after Kennedy’s assassination.
2. 4 Winters Drive, Wayne, New Jersey – 7 December 1963 until June 1970. However, this remained my legal residence until January 1974, when I graduated from the University of Rhode Island.
3. 270 North Fruit Hill Avenue, North Providence, Rhode Island – January 1974 until Summer 1976. I don’t remember the apartment number, but the complex was brand new.
4. An apartment I shared with 4 other girls in Mexico City from September 1976 until June 1977.
5. 4 Winters Drive, Wayne, New Jersey from June 1977 to September 1978 while I went to grad school for my M.S. degree in NYC.
6. An apartment at 1334 W. Foothill Boulevard, Upland, California – I’m not sure of the apartment number, but it might have been 2A – from September 1978 to June 1979.
7. 6637 Jasper Street, Alta Loma, California from June 1979 to September 1984.
8. 6245 Celestite Avenue, Alta Loma, California from September 1984 to May 2010.
9. 505 W. Valle del Oro Road, Oro Valley, Arizona from May 2010 to July 2014.

Churches
While Nana, who lived upstairs, was very religious, neither of my parents were, so while growing up, I went to a wide variety of churches – Roman Catholic, Byzantine Catholic, Lutheran and Presbyterian.
I’ve probably attended Mass in every Catholic church in Passaic, plus St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cathedral (Nana’s church), St. John’s Lutheran Church in Passaic, where I was a Girl Scout, Our Lady of the Valley in Wayne, and Wayne Presbyterian Church.
After I was out on my own:
1. Our Lady of Grace Church, North Providence, Rhode Island
2. St. Patrick’s Church, Mexico City
3. St. Peter & St. Paul Church, Alta Loma, California
4. Santa Catalina Church, Catalina, Arizona
Employment
1.Dairy Bar, Meredith, New Hampshire – I worked as a waitress each summer from June 1968, when I was 16, through September 1970.
2. I worked one summer while in college as a teacher’s aide in Paterson, New Jersey and as a waitress in a restaurant in Wayne, the name of which escapes me, but it went out of business that fall and I had a heck of a time getting my income statement that year. I also worked part time at ABC Industries in Paterson, New Jersey do odds and ends for them and for several temporary agencies doing light secretarial work during college summers.
3. Long term substitute teacher at Kenyon Street School from January 1974 to June 1974.
4. Bilingual teacher at Broad Street School, Central Falls, Rhode Island from September 1974 to June 1976.
5. Third grade teacher at Colegio Eton, Mexico City, Mexico from September 1976 to June 1977.

10. Resource specialist at Vineyard Junior High School, Alta Loma, California from September 1990 to May 2010, when I retired.
I enjoyed this week’s SNGF challenge, but it was a lot of trying to remember on my part! Thanks, Randy. 🙂
How many different residences did you have while you were at college? Accounting for that certainly added to my count; I think I had seven places.
And I noticed that you changed high schools within Wayne while you didn’t change residences. Is there a story there?
I lived in the dorm at college, so no change of address there. As for one year at Wayne Hills, it was a brand new high school. The school board decided to keep all the seniors that year at Wayne Valley and send the whole freshman class to Wayne Hills to keep the student numbers balanced. The following year, everyone went to their own attendance area high school.
Great list. It was a good exercise to remember these details.
