Did you know:
1. In France, today is “Poisson d’Avril” or April Fish, indicating that a young fish is easily caught and fooled. French children pin pictures of fish to the backs of unsuspecting people.
2. In Russia, today is Day of Laughter or Day of Fools.
3. In Scotland, it is Gowkie Day, or Cuckoo Day, again referencing foolish people.
4. In Germany, people shout April, April when they have pranked someone.
5. In Italy, today is called Pesce d’Aprile, similar to the French way.
6. April Fools’ Day is catching on in China, at least by the young people. The elderly have not adopted Western holiday celebrations.
7. Brazilians celebrate O Dia das Mentiras (Day of the Lies) on 1 April.
8. In Greece, pranksters believe that if they can fool somebody, they will have good luck for the rest of the year.
9. In the U.K. and Ireland, jokes are played on people, but only until noon.
10. Today is also known as All Fools Day.
