Research into my husband’s Stufflebean-Sturgell family tree has brought me to many states, Alabama among them.

If you have family ties to Alabama, here are some great resources. Many, if not most, of these sites have multiple links. These are free sites, with the exception of memberships needed for genealogical/historical societies.

Alabama Department of Archives & History – scroll on the left side to Other Sources and then Historical and Genealogical Societies for a PDF file of many local and county genealogical and historical societies, complete with contact info.

Alabama Department of Archives & History Digital Collections – This is a huge, varied collection. Be sure to check it out carefully!
