NOTE: Friday’s Family History Finds will return next week. 🙂
Although I was born and grew up in New Jersey, I have no ancestors who even visited Delaware, as far as I know. However, my husband’s Matthias Steelman family, who settled in North Carolina, are thought to be Swedish and have lived in Delaware before migrating to the South.
I also wonder if my husband’s other Matthias, Matthias Williams, who lived in Cumberland County, Virginia had Scandinavian ties, which came into the family on his (unidentified) mother’s side of the family, as Matthias isn’t a common given name among the English.
In any case, Delaware is a small, but mighty, state with many historical records and there are no losses of county records. 🙂
